Computer-Based Modern Language Aptitude Test (CB-MLAT) Now Available

Second Language Testing Foundation (SLTF), the non-profit organization dedicated to increasing understanding of issues in second language testing among educators and the public, is excited to announce the release of the computerized version of the Modern Language Aptitude Test (CB-MLAT). The CB-MLAT was developed using original MLAT test items and programmed with the help of CAPP Associates in Santa Barbara, California.

The computer-based MLAT was designed to reduce the time and work that goes into the administration of the MLAT. This benefit is especially important for users who need to administer the MLAT to a significant number of persons. The proctoring of the CB-MLAT is handled completely by the program, as is the instantaneous scoring. The CB-MLAT program instantly scores and creates a database of the MLAT results, which eliminates the time and effort of hand-scoring answer sheets and manually entering information.

Some additional advantages of using the Computer-Based MLAT are:
- Allows more secure management of test materials and results.
- Eliminates concern about examinees marking answers out of sequence.
- Eliminates hand scoring; no more errors in scoring.
- Enables more rapid correction of mistaken answers than with pencil, paper and eraser.
- Provides an identical test administration for all examinees.
- Generates statistical reports on examinee score distributions and groupings and creates local norms.
- Allows for the customization of demographic questionnaires including the ability to ask additional questions of examinees.
- Achieves periodic refreshing with new items ensures continued validity.

To learn more about the computer-based MLAT, please visit the CB-MLAT page.
